Canaan Valley prepares snow for Thanksgiving Day

Canaan Valley Resort and Ski Area officials have been working diligently in preparation for ski and snowboard season on the mountain.

Officials took advantage of the colder temperatures and have been making snow ahead of opening the tube runs at the park.

“We took advantage of the cold weather that we were having and we just felt like we should—if it’s possible for us to be open, we should be open.  We had a cold snap last week. We made snow around the clock, as much as possible,” said Canaan Valley State Park Superintendent Stanley Beafore .

With a heavy pack, officials said they will open the tub runs for families visiting the mountain for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We just like to have recreational opportunities open for those people that are here.  It’s a gamble—all the time it’s a gamble.  The snow business, we’re dependent on the weather, but when we get a chance to make it, we make it,” said Beafore.

Visitors will have access to two tube runs while enjoying Thanksgiving on the mountain.

Opening day for skiers, snowboards, and the like will be December 15.
