A proclamation was made during the Tucker County Commission meeting in honor of the county’s Purple Heart recipients.
The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration created as a Badge of Military Merit in 1872. Tucker County has a number of residents who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal and is happy to honor them.
“Personally, I think it’s an honor for them to honor our Purple Heart recipients. They have put their life on the line for this country. Our Purple Hearts, I think, should have a little bit more recognition than what we normally would have for our veterans,” said Army Veteran Bobby Phillips.
Officials say Tucker County residents have been engaged in every war against a declared enemy fought by the United States.
Community members got the chance to visit with several recipients during the proclamation.
