United Hospital Center is using a bicycle theme to celebrate “National Donate Life Month”.
The hospital joined the West Virginia Hospital Association and the Center for Organ Recovery & Education, announcing its awareness campaign called “Life is a Beautiful Ride”.
The guest of honor is a hospital employee who saved his own son’s life by giving him a kidney more than seven years ago.
“Yeah, he went to Notre Dame High School and then he graduated from Notre Dame, they won a state basketball title, and then he went on, and is, at AB College right now on a basketball scholarship,” said donor, Julius Lockett. “That was the perfect thing to be able to do that you can just say hey, this is a part of me that I’m going to give to you and everything. So I was happy, honored and blessed to be able to do that.”
Lockett says you, too, can be a hero by signing up to be an organ donor.
