UPDATE: 2 Marion County residents arrested for involvement in death of Kevin Blanks, Jr.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - UPDATE (11/12/2018 at 5 p.m.):

Two Marion County residents were arrested for their involvement in the shooting death of a 29-year-old man.

Kenneth Rager, Jr., 28, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder early Monday morning, according to the Fairmont Police Department.

Dominic Jones, 31, was arrested and charged with delivery of a counterfeit controlled substance purported to be methamphetamine Sunday night, police said.

Police said Jones was arrested for allegedly transporting Kevin Blanks, Jr., who was killed in the incident, to facilitate a drug deal on November 5. Police call the incident a "drug transaction gone awry."

Blanks was attempting to flee the area of the transaction on Merchant Street, where the shootings began and near where he was shot, police said. Blanks was later found deceased on Front Street half an hour later.

Police said they are continuing to evaluate and accumulate evidence and will continue to "remain guarded concerning the information which is released in this investigation."

Police said they are aware of other people involved in the incident and that they hope those people come to them before they "have to go calling on them."

Officers with the Fairmont Police Department have released the name of the man who was shot and killed Monday night in Fairmont. 

The victim was 29-year-old Kevin Blanks.


ORIGINAL (11/6/2018):

One man is dead following a Monday night shooting in Marion County. 

Police were dispatched just after 9 p.m. to a 'shots fired' call on Columbia Street, according to the Fairmont Police Department. Officers said a 29-year-old man was later pronounced dead on Front Street.

Witnesses on scene told police that there were people “on foot” and “in vehicles” involved in the incident. The vehicles are reportedly both silver. One is believed to be a four-door sedan, possibly with a loud exhaust.

Police said there are four potential crime scenes involving a combination of shootings and robberies. 

The 29-year-old man was reportedly in a vehicle that was shot multiple times.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects, vehicles and any other pertinent information relating to the case.

Officers said two white men are believed to have been involved in the shooting. One man is believed to be 5’10” and was wearing jeans, a dark shirt and hoodie. The other man was reportedly wearing a white shirt.

Police said there are about 30 minutes of time they have not been able to account for and are seeking information about how the 29-year-old man went from Merchant Street to Front Street. They believe a potential chase and interaction between the two vehicles occurred in the areas of Columbia Street, Morgantown Avenue, Homewood Avenue and Palatine Avenue.
