Buckhannon Fire Department asking county residents to send outstanding fire fees

The Buckhannon Fire Department has been asking county residents to be sure they pay their fire fee for this fiscal year.

The department says there is more than $26,000 in uncollected fees that remain to be collected from around the county.

That money will be used to help keep their gear up to date.

The fee will be split between the county’s seven departments, and while it may not seem like much, firefighters said it would be a big help.

“That money coming here could buy one person a brand new set of gear, and that set of gear could save somebody’s life, so in the end it does end up being a lot of money,” said Buckhannon firefighter John Brugnoli.

One complete set of gear can cost a fire department more than $3,000, and is only good for 10 years before it should be replaced for safety reasons.
