Officials in Buckhannon are considering adding a new measure to help combat the drug issue in the city.
City council is considering adding an ordinance to identify houses with high drug activity in the city limits.
A committee of city officials have been meeting to determine how best to establish the new ordinance.
They’re using similar laws in other West Virginia cities as a model to add another weapon in the fight against drug use.
“There’s many times we get complaints from residents of particular houses’ ongoing activity and we want to do all that we can to address those issues, not only through our investigations, but also again through this ordinance,” said Buckhannon Police Chief Matt Gregory.
There’s no timeline yet for when the ordinance will come up for a vote before the city council.
