Buckhannon proclaims April as ‘Child Abuse Awareness Month’

Another area city has joined the effort to counter child abuse.

Representatives of the city of Buckhannon gathered on the steps of City Hall Wednesday afternoon to proclaim April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.

The city partnered with the county’s Family Resource Network for the proclamation and flag-raising, so that people can learn what to look for to help the children who need it.

“If people aren’t aware of child abuse, there’s no way they can help educate or advocate or do anything to help prevent it, because one person can make a difference in the life of a child,” said Lori Ulderich Harvey, director of the Upshur County FRN.

The city joins Upshur County in raising a flag for awareness.  The county’s flag is already flying in front of the courthouse.
