Officials in Buckhannon have received a grant to help make their city easier to navigate.
The Upshur County city received more than 200-thousand dollars to extend ADA-accessible sidewalks along Main Street.
The news sidewalks will extend west from Main Street at Route 20 past St. Joseph’s Hospital.
City officials said the hospital is just one reason they wanted to extend that access.
“We do see foot traffic coming in, especially to the hospital in that area, but also there’s several businesses on that side of town, as well as the administrative annex for the county,” said Callie Cronin-Sams, grant writer for the city.
Cronin-Sams said the city also hopes the sidewalks will also help to encourage businesses to locate on that section of Main Street.
