Buckhannon receives new grant for theater renovation

Upshur

The city of Buckhannon has received another grant from the state to continue renovation and restoration work on its theater.

Mayor David McCauley said the city has received another 61-thousand dollars from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.

The project has been underway for just over a year, bringing the old Colonial Theater back to life.
McCauley said there’s a long way to go, but grants like these make a huge difference.

“We’re only about halfway with where we need to be on the overall budget needed to complete this facility, but when you consider that we just started the project, the demo portion of it, 15 months ago, we’ve made great strides in a short period of time,” said McCauley.

McCauley says the theater’s balcony will also be converted into a separate performance space.
