Work on a portion of Route 20 in downtown Buckhannon is continuing as the school year starts this week.
Crews from the Division of Highways have been working to replace drainage systems and widen the road to allow for a turning lane, but wet weather since spring has slowed the project down.
Officials are also asking that people continue to detour around the area if possible, especially with school in session.
“School’s now back in session, so priority’s going to be given to the busses to get those in and out of the school area in the morning, and in the afternoon to get the kids home,” said Keith Loar, construction area field supervisor with the DOH.
Loar says much of the time-consuming parts of the work have been completed, and he hopes to see the project completed within the next two months.
