Mayor’s fundraiser continues building funds for gym addition

A community fundraiser has brought the campaign to renovate a Buckhannon community center closer to completion.

Buckhannon Mayor David McCauley teamed up with Dominion Resources’ Mike Cozad in a weight loss competition that raised $4,000 for the project.

The city wants to build a brand new gym to expand activities at the Stockert Youth and Community Center.

McCauley said they’ve outgrown the current building.

“We’re averaging between 12,000 and 13,000 hours per month of youth involvement done.  And when you go dividing that among how many kids, the hundreds of kids that are in these many different programs, we just simply don’t have the space to continue growing the programs,” McCauley said.

If you’d like to donate to the project, contact Buckhannon City Hall at (304) 472-1651.
