Upshur County’s largest annual event officially got underway in Buckhannon Wednesday morning.
Opening ceremonies for the West Virginia Strawberry Festival were held at noon on the steps of the Upshur County Courthouse.
The annual event celebrates all things related to the sweet red fruit, and runs all week with plenty of family friendly activities for all.
“For the residents of Upshur County, this is one of the biggest events of the year. Having three kids of my own, they look forward to this event every year. This is the thing that they get the most excited about,” said Upshur County Commissioner Sam Nolte.
The event has been held almost every year since it was first held in 1936.
