Two Upshur County organizations were up early Wednesday morning cleaning a river boat ramp for community use.
The goals of the project include providing access to the river, and making the area more appropriate for the community. There is a six mile float from the Hampton ramp to the river walk in Buckhannon where another ramp is located
This morning, two groups tackled environment and safety concerns such as clearing vegetation and filling in ditches on the bridge. This is one of multiple community projects that Dominion Energy is completing this year.
“We think that more people that are aware of the river will help keep it clean, will appreciate it so much more, and what Dominion has done is provided the access for folks,” said Buck Edwards, member of Create Buckhannon.
Create Buckhannon is looking at other areas for potential boat ramps along the river in the future.
