An Upshur County teacher has received an award from the second largest coal producer in the United States.
Arch Coal presented Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School teacher Sharon Walton with the Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Award.
Walton is one of 10 teachers in the state to receive the award. She also received a check for $35,000.
“It’s a wonderful honor. I know there are so many deserving recipients here in the state so to be chosen for this is a huge honor,” Walton, teacher.
“Arch Coal is really focused on education just to build the future community leaders and people that will give back to the areas that they live in. They believe that kid of course are TRHE Foundation for our future and that these teachers are helping them along the way,” Kerri McDaniel, HR Manager.
Walton is the school’s band director and her peers nominated her.
