CLARKSBURG, W.Va – The West Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA West Virginia, announced several winners of the AIA’s top design awards for 2019 from North Central West Virginia.
The Thrasher Group in Bridgeport and Charleston received an Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for Interiors for the Jack Caffrey Arts and Culture Center in Welch. The Trasher Group design respected the history, meanwhile renovating the modern space that the town needed.
Omni Associates-Architects of Fairmont earned an Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for New Construction for the MCPARC East Marion Pool Entry Pavilion located in Fairmont. With the clean and simple design, the project achieves a great deal.
WYK Associates, Inc. of Clarksburg was awarded the Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for Historic Preservation and the Craftsmanship Award for the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center. Formerly known as the Robinson Grand and Rose Garden Theatres, located in Clarksburg. The jurors noted that the group was able to preserve the history of the building.
Desmone Architects of Pittsburgh, PA and Morgantown, WV were awarded four Merit Awards and one Citation for four separate projects. The four projects awarded are as follows:
- The Morgantown Enterprise Center in Morgantown was awarded for an unbuilt project. This is a proposed adaptive reuse of a former downtown Montgomery Ward department store on High Street in Morgantown.
- Mountain State Brewing Company in Bridgeport, was awarded for it’s interiors. The interior design is meant to to be reminiscent of agricultural or barn typologies.
- WestRidge Leasing Office in Morgantown won for interiors. This 15,000 sqaure foot shell building is a flexible, three-tenant, mixed-use building.
