They say the true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.
This week a man in Charleston, W.Va. was faced with that moral question after finding over $500 in cash in an unlikely place.
This week Janaklal Patel was sorting donations at the Goodwill in Charleston when he found the money in a blanket.
He immediately gave the money to his manager.
“My parents were farmers and they taught me honesty. I lost my parents but I cannot forget that they taught me honesty,” Patel said. “My parent taught me only work hard and earn money don’t go to easy money and short cut money.”
Patel moved to West Virginia in 2013 and recently became a United States citizen.
He is part of a transitional training program at Goodwill learning computer skills that can help him land a permanent job.
