March could bring thousands of meals to Mountaineer Food Bank

The Mountaineer Food Bank is in the running for thousands of meals from Food Lion.  In the spirit of the NCAA basketball tournament, Food Lion launched “Meal Madness” on their social media sites.  

March 22 began Round I of the event.  On Facebook, Mountaineer Food Bank was up against Manna Food Bank of Ashville, NC.  West Virginians can help the food pantry advance by going to Food Lion’s Facebook page and sharing the post.

Each round of voting lasts 24-hours.  There will be 16 food banks which will advance to Round II.  The grand champion will be announced on April 1.

All 30 participating food banks will receive 500 meals.  Those that advance to Round 2 will receive 1,250 meals.  Those who get to Round III get 2,500 more meals.  Round IV adds another 5,000 meals.  the two banks which get to the championship round receive 10,000 additional meals and the grand champion receives another 30,000 meals.
