Martinsburg team headed home after bus crash Saturday

West Virginia

The Martinsburg girls’ basketball team was on their way back home Sunday after a bus accident in Raleigh County Saturday night.

A bus carrying the team flipped over on an on-ramp on Interstate 64 at East Beckley.

13 people were transported from the scene, including one student who was flown to the Charleston Area Medical Center.

Berkeley County Schools said all the students and adults who received medical attention were cleared Saturday.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

They said lack of familiarity with the road, and a lack of lighting due to road construction contributed to the accident.

Berkeley County Schools said no charges are expected, and the team is expected to be back in Martinsburg tonight.
