Not only are teachers seeing support from all over the state, now teachers from across the country are backing educators in West Virginia.
Representatives from states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin traveled to the capitol to talk with members of the WVEA to find out how they can show their support. Members of the San Francisco Education Association also sent more than 200 boxes of pizzas for educators at the capitol.
President of the National Education Association Lilly Eskelsen Garcia said she made her way to Charleston to be one more voice for teachers.
“We believe in the work and the heart and soul of these educators in West Virginia. This is not fun for them. They are sacrificing to be here and they want to be back in their classrooms, but they believe enough is enough,” Garcia explained.
Garcia also spoke in front of hundreds of teachers on the capitol steps to show her support for educators in the Mountain State.
