West Virginia Free hosted a bowling fundraiser at WVU’s Mountainlair for supporters looking to raise funds for those struggling to afford abortions and reproductive health care.
The dual partnership with Women’s Health Center of West Virginia focus is on a program called The Choice Fund. The funding program aims to help bridge the gap for lower income individuals needing assistance for abortion care and reproductive health care.
“This is the 2nd year in a row that we have done the bowling fundraiser it’s actually part of a national thing. There’s something called National Network of Abortion Funds that we work with and they do it kind of all across the country with all of the funds and it’s a thing every April. All the funds do a big party and have a fundraiser and then everyone gets to bowl at the end” said Katie Wolfe, WV Free event coordinator.
Wolfe told 12 News she feels the support now means more than ever before, after the passing of Amendment One last year.
“We’ve go a lot of really awesome people out here to support reproductive rights today and make sure that we really build up that fund. Which is really important since Amdendment One passed last year.” Wolfe said.
