CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Thursday’s Class-AA semi-final baseball games has been delayed until Friday morning at 9 a.m., according to the WVSSAC.
The original announcement was made for an 8 a.m. start on Friday, but that was adjusted to 9 a.m. afterwards.
Bridgeport (28-7), going for its sixth straight Double-A title, was scheduled to face Shady Spring (19-9) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, but the field tarp was placed over the infield roughly an hour before the scheduled first pitch at Appalachian Power Park.
Around 4:45 p.m., an announcement was made for teams to clear the dugouts until 7 o’clock, with the hope to start the game at 8 p.m.
The WVSSAC hopes to get both Double-A games in on Thursday to not only be fair to all four remaining teams in the class, but also to not overload the field Friday, which is already scheduled to have four games being played between Triple-A and Single-A.
According to the WVSSAC, the Double-A championship game will be played Saturday afternoon, after both Triple-A semi-final games are played. The AAA games have been scheduled for 9 a.m.
The start times for championship games have been currently scheduled as follows:
Class AA — Saturday, 4 p.m; Class A — Saturday, 7 p.m; Class AAA — Sunday, 1 p.m.
