VIENNA, W.Va. – Clay-Battelle outlasted Greenbrier West in nine innings Wednesday afternoon to secure the programs first-ever win at the state softball tournament.

Senior Caitlyn Kassay struckout thirteen hitters in her complete game win.

The game went into extra innings tied at one run apiece.

Kassay, who kept Greenbrier West at bay all game long, scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Cee Bees a 2-1 win.

“We’re a small Single-A school. Playing in front of 200 fans would be .. is pretty intense.  Obviously here with, you know, I don’t know how many people.  But I know it’s more than 200. They’ve got to learn to deal with that.  And hopefully tonight, we will.  Because we have to deal with a very good Sherman team,” said head coach Butch Varner.
