In Marion County, Fairmont Sr. has begun practicing for its Super Six meeting with unbeaten Bluefield.
It marks the first time in 115 years of football at Fairmont Senior that the Polar Bears will appear in consecutive state championship games.
Head coach Nick Bartic says the Beavers will present the Polar Bears with a much different challenge than Mingo Central, and that means they’ll prepare differently.
“You’re always trying to stop the run first, and then with these guys, they’re not as much of an aerial attack as their focus, it seems they’re more of bruisers, so it’s a whole different mindset in terms of just getting your prep,” said Bartic.
The Polar Bears won Saturday at Mingo Central, snapping the Miners’ 26-game unbeaten streak.
