The West Virginia Black Bears’ season is fast approaching, and while the organization would normally be prepping Monongalia County Ballpark for their season at this time, this year they must wait until after the WVU Baseball team hosts an NCAA Regional Tournament this weekend.
But GM Matt Drayer says it’s a good problem to have.
“I think it’s great. And that’s beneficial of the Mountaineers and the Black Bears – sharing the facility – is that we open each others fan base and market to reach different demographics of people. So with both teams doing as well as we’ve done since the ballpark opened five years ago, it’s really made Morgantown a baseball town. And we’re cross-mixing college baseball fans with Minor League Baseball fans,” Drayer said.
The general manager also mentioned that they would have no problem offering a few tips to Pirates scouts about draft-eligible players that will be at the ballpark this weekend.
West Virginia’s Minor League season begins Friday, June 14 at 7:05 p.m. against Mahoning Valley.
