WVU holds “Patriotism, Politics and the Playing Field” panel

Sports

West Virginia University held a sports panel titled “Patriotism, Politics and the Playing Field” Tuesday night.

The event was moderated by Voice of the Mountaineers, Tony Caridi, and the panel included such guests as ESPN’s Kevin Blackistone and Senior NFL Reporter Kimberley Martin.

Topics such as activism on the playing field, sports media covering politics and societal issues both on and off the field, and what will be the next big issue involving sports and activism were discussed.

Former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick was also a topic of discussion.

But all panelists agree, politics and sports will always be together.

“Politics and sports have always been married together. And I think they always will be married together. And I think it’s somewhat troubling when people even suggest they should be divorced,” said Blackistone.
