Senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee for President who served for decades in the United States Senate has died.

McCain was 81 years old.

McCain had been seeking treatment for glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, until announcing earlier this week that he would no longer seek further treatment.

McCain made headlines last year when he cast what many called the deciding vote against repeal of the Affordable Care Act by a Republican-led Congress.
