UPDATE: Morgantown firefighter injured while battling abandoned house fires

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A Morgantown firefighter was injured Thursday evening while battling fires at two abandoned houses.

Around 10:25 p.m. firefighters were called to a fire at the end of Falling Run Road. Firefighters found flames coming from the back of a building and then noticed the house next door was also on fire, officials said.

One firefighter suffered a foot or ankle injury and was taken to the hospital, city officials said. There were no other injuries.

Both houses were vacant and condemned, official said. Officials estimate that the fire did $150,000 in damage to the houses.

Investigators believe the fires started in the rear of both houses and will be returning to the scene Friday morning to work to determine a cause, they said.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va- Emergency crews responded to a structure fire in Monongalia County Thursday Night.

According to the Monongalia County 911 Communication Center, first responders were alerted of the fire at 10:24 p.m. at the intersection of Protzman Street and Falling Run Road in Morgantown.

At this time there are no injuries being reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.

The Morgantown City Fire Department responded to the scene.
