UPDATE: Names released of 2 people killed in accident on I-79 in Monongalia County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - UPDATE (11/26/18 2:20 P.M.)

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the two people who died following the vehicle accident on I-79 in Monongalia County on Saturday afternoon.

Ghazi Farah Sakran, 83, and Donnis Philbeck Sakran, 82, both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina were killed as a result of the accident.

Two people are dead after an accident on Interstate 79 Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the accident that stopped northbound traffic in Monongalia County on Saturday.

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department says a vehicle traveling south on the interstate lost control and crossed the median where it hit another vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes.

The accident happened just before 12:30 three miles past the Star City exit.

Emergency officials were rerouting traffic to help clear the area, which reopened just after 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Monongalia County Sheriff and EMS responded to the accident, as well as the Star City Fire Department.

The identities of the two people killed in the accident have not yet been released.
