WBOY STORMTRACKER 12 WEATHER SYNOPSIS:
High pressure sliding east of the state has allowed the region to tap into slightly warmer air coming off of a southerly wind today. Highs reached the 60s across the entire viewing area including the mountain counties. It's been a nice end to the work week with plenty of sunshine and dry conditions. However, clouds will gradually increase this evening and showers will trickle in overnight. High school football games will kick off dry but the tail end of the game or the drive home may be clipped with some showers. Showers will continue overnight and it won't be a cold with lows around 50 degrees.
It'll be difficult to choose which day will be the best to head out this weekend. Ultimately you'll have to pick your poison, cool showers or just plain cold temperatures. While Saturday will mainly feature gloomy skies with some showers, Sunday's highs will be well below average but it will be mainly dry. Overall, it may be best to spend the weekend indoors staying warm under blankets sprawled out on the couch.
Cloudy skies are expected Saturday along with passing showers throughout the day. Cooler air moving back in behind the cold front will set highs around the mid-50s Saturday and only the upper 40s on Sunday. Saturday night showers will begin to mix with snow along higher terrain and linger into early Sunday morning.
Mountain counties can expect about an inch of snow with up the 3" possible along higher peaks. Snow will taper off in the mountains around noon. Some flurries may also be seen in the lowlands early Sunday morning however, no accumulation is expected. High pressure will build back in during the second half of Sunday which will allow for gradual clearing. The end of the weekend will come to a close on a dry and sunny note with temperatures once again hovering around freezing overnight.
Sunny and dry conditions will remain for the first half of next week with temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 50s. Mainly sunny skies are expected Monday with dry conditions and highs near 60 degrees. Tuesday may see a little more cloud cover, however, the warmth will stick around with highs close to 60 degrees for another day. Mainly dry conditions will linger into the middle of the work week which will be accompanied by a mix of sun and clouds.
