Statewide tornado drill scheduled for Tuesday morning

Tornado Drill

A scheduled statewide tornado drill will occur Tuesday March 6th, 2018 at 10:00 AM. It is recommended we use this time to prepare, practice and execute a severe weather plan in case of an actual severe weather emergency.

Like most things, preparation is crucial when it comes to severe weather. Being ”Storm Ready’ involves knowing the weather forecast and staying informed about watches, warnings and other weather alerts. How do you receive those alerts? The WBOY app is a free and easy way to get access to severe weather alerts as well as the news of the day. In the event of an actual tornado warning, WBOY will issue severe weather alerts on-air, online and via social media with details including location, speed, direction of travel and additional helpful information.

The NWS is the authority on severe weather preparation and alertness. They recommend conducting a severe weather drill so everyone knows what to do if a tornado is approaching. Best places to take shelter include: basement, cellar, closet, interior hallway & bathtubs. Reminder, avoid windows, outside walls, mobile homes, and bridges.
