WBOY STORMTRACKER 12 WEATHER SYNOPSIS:
WIND ADVISORY FOR ENTIRE VIEWING AREA FROM 9 P.M. TONIGHT UNTIL 7 A.M. TOMORROW. WINDS COULD BE GUSTING UP TO 50 MILES PER HOUR THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AND INTO THE EARLY HOURS OF OUR TUESDAY. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS AS THERE COULD BE DOWNED POWER LINES AND TREE LIMBS THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AS A RESULT OF THOSE HEAVY WINDS.
As we say goodbye to 2018, we’ll be sending it off with a bang! A low pressure system is moving through the Mountain State giving us a combination of rain and wind. A warm front this morning will give us areas of showers and downpours before we see a small break in the action by the afternoon. During the break, temperatures expected to rise into the 50s and 60s and winds are expected to pick up. The associated cold front will move through later this evening into the overnight period bringing scattered showers and downpours into the New Year, so make sure to have a rain jacket or umbrella with your noisemakers and confetti. Things will be wet for the most part overnight so make sure to drive carefully to and from your New Year’s Eve festivities due to gusty winds and some potential areas of ponding and flooding in low-lying areas.
By the time everything is said and done, some spots could see up to an inch. Colder air will move in Tuesday with some rain and snow showers possible with mostly cloudy skies. More rain will be likely into the lowlands and snow into the mountains but areas of freezing drizzle or rain are possible across north-central West Virginia Tuesday night as temperatures fall from from the 40s in the afternoon to around freezing overnight.
A few flurries or snow showers are possible Wednesday with a mix of sun and clouds and we could see another area of wintry mix overnight Wednesday into Thursday as temperatures will be in the mid-30s to around 40. Another system of rain moves in early Friday and will bring us a good amount of rain into Saturday will transition into a rain/snow mix. Amounts are unclear at this point, but things are looking like it is going to be a wet first weekend of 2019.
