The Irish Spring Festival will take place this weekend in Ireland in Lewis County. The festival is a celebration of Scots-Irish heritage, but just as much a celebration of awakening the Appalachian Spring. Some activities and attractions include: a costume contest, arts and crafts, harp music, Irish themed food and drinks, The Lucky Charm Pitch (horseshoes), Tour de Shamrock, Snake Chase (10K walk/run), cornhole and Irish Road Bowling also known as Irish Long Bullets.
Saturday-Sunday (March 16-17)
If you’re looking to rid yourself of cabin fever, this weekend’s 35th annual Maple Syrup Festival in Pickens is a perfect pick. This year’s festival will feature two new events — axe throwing and the introduction of the Paw Patrol, Scooby Doo, and Troll characters for kids. Wear your green and join Park Superintendent Doug Wiant on Saturday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Activity Building at Holly River State Park. The Green Day Hike will venture along a trail at Holly River and look for different shades of green, whether it is with grasses, mosses, flowers, or any other plant.
The West Virginia Wesleyan College Planetarium will host Space Park 360. The show will take place in its 40-seat Planetarium is located on the 2nd floor of Christopher Hall.
Operation Welcome Home will host the ‘Morgantown Shootout’ on Saturday. The “Morgantown Shootout” is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser at Morgantown’s Premier Shooting and Training Range, Defense in Depth. The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
The Marion County Historical Society, Inc. and the Marion County Commission are having a free fun filled day at the historic Marion County Court House for all ages. There will be live music, displays and living history interpreters.
The Bruceton Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser to benefit local accident victims. There will be a rigatoni dinner and pulled pork dinner on Saturday There will also be a basket raffle and a bake sale as well as t-shirts, decals, tumblers and bracelets to help raise money towards medical expenses.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s day with The Cupcakerie and Mountain State Brewing Co. in Morgantown as they host an afternoon of cupcake and craft beer pairings to benefit Empty Bowls Monongalia.

The Thomas Art Walk is an annual tradition in Tucker County. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. and highlight local talent.
Tygart Lake State Park will host it’s Green Day Hike on St. Patrick’s Day! Attendees can meet park naturalist Jacob Jackson at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Nature Center for a walk outdoors to see what is greening. Anyone wearing green receives a 15% off coupon for a gift shop item.
Three of West Virginia’s largest ski resorts are offering free skiing and snowboarding to all West Virginia residents. Canaan Valley Ski Area in Tucker County, Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County and Winterplace Ski Resort in Raleigh County are all offering no-cost skiing. Skiers or snowboarders will just need to show proof of West Virginia residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill.
