Nearly two years after hunters found a body in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area in Grant County, West Virginia, State Troopers are still looking for leads in the case. The victim was Ivan “Vanya” or “Vee” Perlis. His remains were found on Nov. 12, 2016.
The West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office was able to determine that Mr. Perlis was shot and killed between the dates of Oct. 3 and Oct. 5, 2016. Perlis was a white man of Russian descent.
Over the years since that time, investigators said they have been able to identify several possible suspects. The lead investigator, Trooper Thorn with the Moorefield/Petersburg Detachment, said leads have recently developed.
With the second anniversary of the case approaching, Crime Stoppers of West Virginia has teamed up with the West Virginia State Police to help wrap the case and bring closure to the family.
Mr. Perlis was 25-years old when he was killed. He was known to stay in the areas of Canaan Valley, Harman, Dry Fork, Parsons and Lanesville in Tucker County, and also in Elkins in Randolph County.
